When I attempt to go to any websites the computer goes to "errorplace.com/red.php?c=&aff=&q=(google) which is blank. No popups appear..... modem connects (dial up), but can't connect to outlet express or download any updates.....RUNNING XP HOME....2002.....1.10 Ghz 256 mg of ram ( I am posting this from my computer at work....)
I've tried clearing the usual suspects: cookies, cache, temp. files. I've ran CWShredder, AdAware, SpyBot, Ccleaner and AVG (updated versions) in both regular and safe mode... and cleaned out everything I could. I have system restore off and 'show hidden files checked'...... I'm not overly experienced with this.
Would someone please tell me what I might need to do.....I have a HiJackThis logfile ready if I need to post it....
    Thanks in advance!

Thanks for your reply...the only similarities I see are:

    R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings,ProxyServer = http=localhost:8080

R3 - Default URLSearchHook is missing

Do I need to fix these???????

    Thanks

Not sure yet! Do you use a proxy server or does you ISP require those settings?
I would want to see an HJT log but not yet. First make sure you have followed the steps given here: http://forums.majorgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=35407

If still having problems after that, we will look into an HJT log.

What exactly does this mean? What won't let you? How far do you get? What error messages do you receive? You need to be able to get Windows updates.

If you really can't do anything, how did you download and run all the other tools.

Sorry for the miswording......When I update adaware,cwshredder,etc...tells me I have the latest update or no updates available......when I try to get windows updates it does nothing.....just hangs at errorplace page......
I also cannot send or receive e-mail.......modem does connect....called my ISP was told as long as I'm connected to them thats all they can do....
( I have downloaded adaware, cwshredder, etc. to my computer at work, burned them on disk and re loaded these.....

When I'm online and try to go to any site it just stays on errorpage..... don't get a error message......

That was not an attachment. That is an inline log. You did not read the instructions. I converted it to an attachment for you (this time).

Click Start, and then click Run. (The Run dialog box appears.)
Type, or copy and paste, the following text:

    regsvr32 /u C:\WINDOWS\nvsnxsf.dll

then click OK. If a dialog box confirming this action appears, click OK.

Now run HijackThis and put checks on the following items but do not click Fix until you have exited all browser (Internet Explorer) sessions.

    O2 - BHO: jimmyhelp.CBrowserHelper - {15E6DF22-B98D-4E02-AF8F-7432AA9545FD} - C:\WINDOWS\nvsnxsf.dll
    O9 - Extra button: (no name) - {CD67F990-D8E9-11d2-98FE-00C0F0318AFE} - (no file)
O19 - User stylesheet: (file missing)

Now reboot in safe mode: http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/tsgeninfo.nsf/docid/2001052409420406

Enable viewing of hidden file and folders: http://forums.majorgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=37650

Use Windows Explorer to find and delete:
    C:\WINDOWS\nvsnxsf.dll

Now boot in normal mode and let me know your status.
