Yesterday I found errors in the event viewer (see pic) and did a chkdsk /r but don't know what to do next. Perhaps you can tell me? I wasn't even at the computer, just watching TV at the time shown in the pic.

So what is the next step? Thanks so much for any replies!

If Windows is OK today and no similar errors showing you don't need to do anything else. Did you watch the chkdsk report - did it say corrections had been made to the file system?

It might be an early sign of disk problems developing so running the disk manufacturer's disk checking utility would be worth doing.

So far today no further errors showing of the same. I couldn't read the outcome of the chkdsk /r because the screen showing at the end was way too fast in disappearing. :mad One word I saw was *clean* Windows seems to be okay for now as far as I can tell and atm no further errors for same.

I just have re-installation disks from Dell and don't know if there is any repair option on it. Am even afraid of trying one of these disks as I've never had to re-install.

I've seen quite a few errors over time in the Event Viewer and have been able to fix some by googling. I couldn't find any solution to these errors though by googling.

Not what I mean. Look in Device Manager to find out which manufacturer made the hard disk, like Seagate, WD, Hitachi etc. Go to the support section of their website and find and d/load the utility that checks the disk's integrity.

I just ran Dells' PC Doctor that checks the HDD and other things. All passed, see pic.

Just want to run it by you to see if this is the website and software that I need to install and run it as well? http://support.wdc.com/product/download.asp?groupid=606&sid=3&lang=en

PS: I wrote the WDC # in the *find by model number* box to get to the page above.

The Dell test is the sort of test I had in mind and it probably answers the question. No harm though in running the WD one too. I notice that the WD downloads include their free version of Acronis so if you aren't at present imaging your system that would be a perfect solution - especially if the HD were to fail despite passing the tests!

That's what I thought and ran Dell's PC Doctor since I run it once a month but did it again today. I image with Macrium Reflect free version, so thanks for mentioning Acronis although I saw it on their page as well. Read a while back that Acronis is difficult to uninstall because it leaves many remnants behind.
