I get an error message stating: "Applet failed to initialize because this Windows station is shutting down." every time I try to turn off my computer. Behind this message there are two "not responding" messages, but I can never see what programs they are due to this applet message. I have run all the scans, removed malware, removed unnecessary start up programs, defragged, etc. Now I am at a loss...and a search of your site has turned up nothing. :( Any suggestions?

Make a text file of what is showing in device manager as running tasks and attach it to your next post.

Okay...I couldn't get it into a text message, so I took and zipped a screenshot. Hope that works for you.

I zoomed the image 200 % so I could have a look. From what I'm seeing, you have 81 processes running and 15 instances of svchost. It's okay to have a few of these but with 15 of them, I think you have way too much running.
It will take some time to look over 81 items.

oops, I started writing down the processes and realized there is overlap. You actually have 40 items and 8 instances of svchost.
I'll start looking around to see what each of these is doing.

It took me a while until I could find this thread again.
I'm not sure about the shut down error but there are some things running that you can turn off.
    1. mcsmscsvc.exe , part of McAfee which from searching seems to give people problems and is not necessary for your McAfee security.
    2. aawservice.exe, part of AdAware but it does not need to be running on the free edition.

    3. MDM.EXE is the Machine Debug Manager

    4. MDNSResponder is Bonjour for Windows

    5. jqs.exe Java Quicktime Starter
disable it in the Java Control Panel
    and
    6. jusched.exe Sun Java Updater
also Java Control Panel, then the update tab and uncheck "check for updates automatically" then select monthly or never and click apply

    7. ctfmon.exe this depends on whether you need the language; if you need it, then don't touch this.

Actually...removing java and reinstalling it the second time took care of the shut down errors. I can't thank you enough for all your help! Now that I've gotten rid of these "extra" programs from your last post, I'm sure my computer will be running like new again! :-D

I'm trying to decide what is more frustrating...this machine that seems to have a mind of it's own or my 8 year old twins who can't even get out of bed without arguing with each other.

Now when I shut down, I get a message saying "CiceroIUWin is not responding" Any suggestions?
