I have tried seven ways to Sunday (actually seven ways ON Sunday) to get my Epson Perfection Scanner driver to work again. It has been working fine for two years. Perhaps it's the latest XP update....

When I try to open the scan management utility (EpsonScan), I get an error message that escndv.exe isn't working, and the problem is esui.dll. I have uninstalled and reinstalled. I've deactivated Norton while doing this. I've done reg cleans before reinstalling, deleted folders, and tried both the original driver, and the newest download. I even removed and reinstalled the Nothing has worked.

Just to be sure, I installed the Smart Panel, including all it's various utilities.

In desperation, I installed the scanner on my newly reformatted laptop (which also has all the XP Patches current), and it works fine.

I've found a number of suggestions on the net, but none have worked. I really need a new idea, short of reformatting.

Knowing that you are likely to ask for the HiJack This log, it follows:

EDIT: None requested HJT log deleted.

    HELP! Please!

If you suspect Malware as a culprit please follow the guides in this section Run ALL the steps in this Sticky thread READ & RUN ME FIRST Before Asking for Support

Make sure you check version numbers and get all updates.
and post in the Malware forum.

However I feel your problem maybe more software/driver/registry over Malware, so see if this resolves the issue before resorting to HJT logs and the guide above.....

    A. Uninstall your scanner from the Device Manager and Add/Remove menu

    B. Find using search any or all of these files and delete
    Twain.log, Twain001.mtx, Twunk001.mtx, Twunk002.mtx, Twunk003.mtx

    C. Delete the Epson folder and or any Epson files located in this folder C:\WINDOWS\TWAIN_32\

    D. Open Regedit ( Start > Run > type regedit > ok ) and delete* the Epson folders at these two locations

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Epson\
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Epson\

    just right click delete them.

    E. Reboot and re-install the Epson software/drivers

*I would either before deleting backup the whole registry or rightclick Export those two Registry KEYS

Oh, there is a God! That worked! Thank you ever so much. I think I tried deleting everything Epson before, but ... I may have chicked out for some other reason and done a system restore before ...

Anyway, this worked, and I am SO grateful!

    Hugs from Granny:)

You guys rock! I had contacted Epson and got the standard "please delete and reinstall" crap which didn't work. I have been without a scanner for over four months. Thanks so much for the sage advice :cool
