Hi all, about a month ago my computer got really infected with malicious files and those files disabled my ethernet card , amongst other things.I am trying to find a fix so I can surf the net again and not rely on my brother's or sister's laptop.

In the Control panel>Network connections screen, there is a blank screen instead of the network connection that i used to have, trying to access the "Set up a home or small office network" option brings up a window with this message
"Cannot complete the network setup wizard, The wizard cannot find your network hardware. Before using this wizard, you must first install and configure your network cards, modems, cables and device drivers. For help installing your hardware, see hardware requirements overview in Help and Support Center. Then, when you are finished installing your network hardware, run this wizard again."

I am running windows xp sp 2, ethernet is "Realtek RTL8169/8119 Family Gigabit Ethernet NIC realtek semiconductor corp". I've tried searching for the relevant driver from the manufacturer's website and other third party sites but to no avail. I got this pre-computer in 2006 so my card is quite dated.

Any advice would be from the pros would be very much appreciated, thanks alot!

Additional information ,I uninstalled the card from start<program files<RealTek>ethernetcardnoxxxx etc.

It sounds like the driver could have been removed. Could you please tell us the make and model of your computer. Also it would be helpful if you could post a Everest report.

I downloaded and installed it , it still brings up the same cannot find wizard prompt in control panel<network connections. When i try using the "Add Hardware Wizard" , i get this current status of my hardware " Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware. This driver may be corrupted or missing (Code 39)." There are like several entries in the installed hardware screen with yellow exclamation marks next to them. Under the diagnostic program you had me download, it couldnt detect my device hence I have no clue on what to do now. Thanks pclover and i look forward to your reply.

Thanks pclover, I can not progress pass step no.4. I believe the instructions are for win95 os. In the add hardware wizard, right after the wizard scanning process ( a magnifying glass moving around a monitor) there is a screen asking "Have you already connected this hardware to the computer" , i picked yes and the following screen is a list of installed hardware ,some with yellow exclamation marks on the left. If necessary, i could take a screen shot of the affected hardware on the list so it might be easier to diagnose the problem.
