Ethernet Controller Not Working After Format

I recently formatted a PC at work as the staff member had left and we wanted to put everything back to factory settings (which I have done on many PC's without issue). I did notice when I completed this task that there was only the primary drive available (after going into boot menu and booting from USB to format) and not the partition. I continued to format the primary drive and now the PC does not recognize any Ethernet being plugged in.

I have look in device manager and it is showing that the Ethernet Controller and 802.11 n WLAN both have an Exclamation mark next to them. I have tried several things to resolve this:
-Downloading Drivers (to which most of them do not install as they require an internet connection)
I find this one silly, as I am installing a driver for something that will make the internet work but without the internet, the driver will not install.

    -Installing updates
    -Updating driver

Nothing I have tried seems to work so any assistance is much appreciated.

Download the drivers on another PC, copy them to a USB stick which you then plug into this PC, and install the drivers.

Tried this, the drivers do not seem to install without an internet connection. It appears that they do actually install, but at the end of the installation the PC checks for an internet/ethernet connection and then reverts back to before the install.

Are you trying via the device manager, update driver, and pointing to the file ?- I have often found that installed some drivers best.
I never found a need to be on-line if I had the file already downloaded.

Yes, ive tried to run installed drivers from a USB stick, which again, does not work as the internet connection is not there. Ive also tried via the Device Manager but this also does not work.

It might sound silly, but i am unsure if i need to find the software that you would originally install when you connect the Ethernet hardware to a PC?????

You said you tried to run the drivers , not update through device manager ?
If you have the files on a usb stick, copy them ,first onto the pc you are working on, -then try updating, by right clicking the device, and choosing update driver...
Curious when you ask about the software that you would originally install........Those should be the ones you have downloaded.....
    pc name.................?
    model.......................?
    Windows version.......?
The pc manufacturer would usually have the necessary drivers, so we might be able to check for you, or, we can look them up to try to ensure they are the ones you have, or, need.

Baklogic is correct but if your having trouble making this work, just USB your phone to tether a connection and install the driver.

Oh, and get your boss to fork out for your data usage ;)

To tether a phone via USB requires the phone's drivers installed on the PC.
Try tethering via Bluetooth or Wi-Fi.

If the ethernet is integrated into the motherboard, don't you need to install motherboard drivers?

Easy way to regain internet connectivity is to buy a USB ethernet adapter. Then setting up the system becomes possible again.

Eldon, you would do well on advice that you know about and have tested yourself, you do not need drivers to tether a connection on any device my friend.
Your phone can act as a modem gateway with anything as a hotspot!

That's just a load of misinformation.........its all about tethering a hotspot guys, this is easily achieved with a data shared device such as your smart phone.
Would you like me to explain in detail how its done, or can you figure it out for yourselves?

The hotspot device and the device sharing it (Desktop PC) means they are both connected to the same Wifi network (IP range) so no bluetooth pairing should be required.

I dont understand what you mean?

I don't see how you can call the very simplest solution misinformation but yes, providing the OP knows his way around the network settings on both his computer and his phone then tethering is the up-to-date way of doing it, no argument. Just keep an eye on the mobile data charges

This is what happens when I try to tether my Samsung Galaxy Pocket Neo (GT-S5310) via USB cable without an internet connection.
