Ethernet Driver on laptop?

I have a Compaq Presario V6133CL model laptop, the wireless card inside has long since failed me, i did a reformat of my laptop last night, and the wireless card worked all night when i downloaded the driver for it, went to turn on my computer today, and no luck(happened to me before the reformat i assume the card is going bad) But thats not the issue, until i got buy a USB wireless card i want to use good old ethernet cable.

I have it plugged in right now but the laptop does not recognize the ethernet port, under device manager->network adapters-> it only shows 1394 net adapter.

I searched HPs site for my laptop and such and looked under all the drivers i could find for my laptop but the "Ethernet" driver seems to be missing, the website is the same i used to install all my other drivers on the lappy which worked great(the vid card, sound, ect). Anyone know whats the problem here or what driver i need?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

It runs Windows XP sp2

 

Have you tried the hardware wizard in >control panel>add hardware? Just curious! Try it and see what happens if you haven't done so yet then let us know.

 

Yes i have and it doesnt show anything that i think would the ethernet port just these listed as ?'s:

Other PCI bridge device
Coprocesor
SM bus controller
Uknown

Rest is stuff the computer has working.

PS: there is now wireless card listed either, and my light on the wireless card is orange(off) blue is on.

 

The laptop has an NVidia chipset. The devices you listed above are all part of the chipset software, and NVidia chipsets also include the network drivers. Click this link and download the chipset drivers. After the install is done, restart the PC. The wireless drivers can be downloaded from this link. Again, restart the PC after installing the drivers. That should do it!

The first set you gave me worked for the ethernet, ill try the broadcom driver but i think i already used that and the device still wont work, but ill give it another try

The wireless even after installing the one u gave still refuses to work(yes the switch is turned on) i just figured its going bad or already is. againt hanks for gettin the ethernet to work

 

:highfive Glad to hear the first set of drivers worked and the the ethernet is up and running. Try going to Add/Remove Programs in the Control Panel and uninstall any wireless and/or Broadcom things that are listed. Restart the PC. Then download and install TUGzip from this link. TUGzip can extract RAR files, ZIP files, 7zip files, many EXE files, and just about any archive or self-extracting archive you're likely to encounter. When installing TUGzip just click 'Next' all the way through. At the end of the install, there will be a little check-box for "Launch TUGzip"; go ahead and launch it; click "Next" all the through again until you see a "Finish" button; there will be a column on the left side with a bunch of different archive formats with a "Select All" button under it; click the "Select All" button; click "Finish". A window will open that looks like an Explorer-type window, close it. Right click the file you downloaded (the file you want to extract) and click the 2nd upward pointing green arrow, it will say something like "Extract to: .\filename" and the driver will extract to a folder of the same name. Then use the steps in this thread to install the drivers via the Device Manager and Hardware Wizard... hopefull this will get the wifi going too!
