ethernet help

    hi all:

    Im trying to help brother in law here..he just got cable modem access..hes getting a message that local area connection is unplugged soon after windows load..the ethernet cable is clicking in to both the back of the pc and the cable modem..his tech support said to try and tighten the ethernet card..he took the side panel of pc off (a dell) and there is a little box covering the ethernet card..how do we get access to the card..all help appreciated

    What do you mean by a little box?

    Normally your ethernet card will either be built into the motherbaord or in a PCI slot. If it is in the PCI slot you should be able to remove it by taking off a the screw that holds down the bracket and pulling it gently straight towards you. If it is built into the board there is no tightening or adjusting to be done.

    Have you tried a different ethernet cable?

    i think im talking about a bracket..cant see how to remove the bracket
