Well you can really do either, won't really effect your speed as such. Ethernet is just more stable than USB, though if you run on a LAN (like me.) u'll want to keep that network card free. So USB would probably be better. But by all means if you feel that's not the case, go Ethernet.

I used to use usb before the days when we had more than one computer and no network card installed. Then got a network card for a fiver and switched to ethernet and found it a lot better. The usb connection kept having problems with the hardware whereas the ethernet connection was a lot more stable.

heh, didn't i just say though, that if you need that Network card spare for LAN , there's really no point. =P

USB uses more cpu cycles, won't work in SafeMode w/ Networking (XP), and most likely will not work in Non MS OSes either.

heh then how you gonna have a free network card? =P , Would you just get two? o_O .

And I'm using USB myself and have come across no problems, but then again i've never had to boot into safe mode, though i can't see how u'd need to use your internet connection in safe mode =S

Like regular SafeMode, SafeMode w/ Networking is used for troubleshooting.

    Its extremely useful.

Quite a few motherboards these days have dual nics built in.

By the way, if you are setting up a proper lan, you don't need two NICs, even if your internet connection is via ethernet.

Software ICS is just as ghetto as USB modem connections.

heh, i think I'm misunderstanding what ur saying but, If i'm correct are you telling me I don't need two network cards if i wanna run a LAN and run my internet connection via Ethernet? o_O Coz to me that sounds alittle odd. But like i said, i have probably misunderstood u =P

You didn't misunderstand me. You don't need two network cards.

Have you never used a router or switch with an uplink port before?
