I got a ethernet RJ45 male to USB female connector because I wanted to use a usb mouse on my computer that has broken usb ports. I waited two weeks for this piece of garbage to ship from hong kong only have it to not work. I got it off amazon and it says its plug and play and ive tried it on 4 laptops and nothing happens. All my drivers are up to date and when i plug in the actual ethernet cable to see if it lights up it does. So the port isnt messed up Im assuming I just got a faulty product? Or can you think of something im doing wrong possibly?

And thats because this product doesnt turn the ethernet port into a usb port... fudge...... Well anyway I got an acer aspire 5732z with broken usb ports. Anyone have any asuggestions on what i can do to get usb ports on this thing. I thought the rj45 would work but I guess not. Maybe a vga to female usb converter? All i wanna do is use a mouse on this computer. Id rather not buy a brand new laptop.

You can't convert stuff like vga into usb, its a different port. You would need to fix the usb ports to use usb devices.

I had problems with all four of the USB ports on my Dell Precision M70. The only solution was to replace the system board because all of the USB ports are surface mounted on the board.

I got a manufacturer refurbished system board off of ebay, downloaded the service manual for my Dell, printed it out so I'd have it in front of me when I worked on the laptop and voila! she's good as new. :)

Rather than replacing the laptop, you may be able to do the same. It seems a daunting task, but it's not actually that hard. And while you have the laptop apart, it will give you a chance to clean out any junk that may be inside.

It is possible to replace the USB ports. The bad news is that it has to be done by someone who is VERY experienced with motherboard repair. It is NOT something you should personally attempt unless you have both experience and high-end soldering equipment.

Call a few local PC repair shops and get estimates. Replacement USB ports are available on eBay for about $6-$10.

    Hope this helps.
