    Good Morning,
I keep getting an Event ID 51 (not being able to write my data to a drive). I think I already lost 1 drive due to this.
I've been through Microsoft and all I got was "Geek" talk
so hopefully all you smart repliers will understand what they were trying to say because I haven't a clue. The one thing that I did see was that I didn't have cache assigned to the drive, but, then they went on to say it wasn't for my system.
    I have an Alienware 3.66 GH, 4 mb ram, XP sp3, IE7.
Thanks, hope you can come up with the answer!!
    Dianne

I rarely look at the errors and warnings in the logs because I can't figure out the fixes.

There must be a reason why you looked at the logs so let me ask you a) what were you trying to do and b ) what happened? That will help me more than some error or warning in a logfile.

    Hi Plodr,
Thank you so much for replying to my post. Th reson I was looking is because I keep getting an error message popup that tells me "failed writing to disk, please try to save the file elsewhere". But, I can't because the file is gone. I figured maybe the event log would help me figure out what was going on. I'm also going to post over in "hardware" so if you're good with that too, take a look.
Back to this problem - am I looking in the wrong place to try and fix this problem?

What where you trying to write? In other words, are you using Office or notepad? Or are you trying to write to a CD or DVD and using a burning program.
I can troubleshoot better if I knew a specific program.

That I can't answer; all I know is that it doesn't help me. :-D The may be a geek here who knows exactly what this means and how to fix it - just not me.

People also post minidumps but again, I can't read them and our expert on minidumps Adrynalyne, doesn't come around these parts too much any more.

If you can find a minidump, this guide might help
    http://forums.majorgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=35246

about the only thing I can understand in all that is
    DEFAULT_BUCKET_ID:
    SYMBOL_NAME:
    MODULE_NAME:
    IMAGE_NAME:

those items pinpoint what file or process is causing the problem.

Of course I have minidump turned off because it is a waste of hd space to create something I have a hard time understanding.

It's weird because I wasn't trying to write anything. it's like the system was doing something in the background and failed! If/when it happens again I'll keep all the info and send it here.
Did I say thanks for all your effort? Thanks!!
