Event Log fails to start.

    When trying to view the system log I get an error unable to complete the operation on 'system'. The interface is unknown. I think this is because the Event log Service is not running.

    When I try to start it it fails with an Error 31 - a device attached to the system is not working.

    I've been to several threads on the internet but none of the advice has helped.

    I'm not sure how long this PC has had this problem. It's not mine. I discovered this issue when trying to resolve another issue.
