Ever heard of "GRR!"? Know another that does this?

There's a little program called GRR! (Grayware Registry Rearguard), from Grayware (http://www.grayware.com), that says it keeps executables and registry keys and the startup menu from being changed without your permission.

I'm asking whether you know it or know others that do this same sort of thing (and are better-known). GRR! costs $25, and I wouldn't mind paying that if I thought the thing added a level of security to my hard drive, but I've got an idea there are others that do the GRR! thing and are freeware.

Anybody?

 

Well the TeaTimer part of Spybot monitors startup registry keys and folders as part of "resident protection".... It works pretty well for me.

 

I agree. I use TeaTimer and it notifies me of any change to the registry or startup folder. My system is clean as a whistle with TeaTimer's help.

 

Same here Goldy. When TTimer started out it was a bit of a hog, but in the later editions of Spybot that hogginess was cured. On my box it's running now at . . . let's see . . . 2.4K using 00 processor time. It varies between 1.4 @ 00 and when it's working hard identifying things that try to change my registry. (Like when SP2 came onboard, it went nuts until I told it "There, there. It's okay. No, really, it is." ) it uses about 4.8K to 5.8K dropping back to 1.4K when it's done.

 

You guys always come through. That's exactly what I needed to know.

I've never looked into TeaTimer in Spybot, but instead of asking questions that will be answered if I RTFM, I'll head on out to find out about it now.
