o_O there was a guy on tv who, in front of math experts, said 50,000 decimal places of pi without looking at anything, all in his head. Now that was creepy.

Maybe my memory isn't as good, but I was taught at school that Pi was 3.13 repeated?

Yes, it must be my memory.

I was taught that Pi is 22 over 7, which is 3.142.

Waste of time learning advanced maths for most people.

In my day, you weren't allowed to use calculators. Everything had to be worked out manually.

Advanced math???? I've taught math thru all grades and pi is just plain simple math when explained properly ....roll out a cylinder along a marked surface to measure the circumference ....divide that distance by the diameter of the cylinder and you have pi. The finer your measurement, the more exact the equivalency to pi.
Most kids would look at me in amazement and say ..but no one ever explained it that way. To which I would tell them they use math all the time and don't realize it ....wait till they get a job doing carpentry or construction ...it's all geometry.

When I used a slide rule, it was 3.14.

When I used a calculator, it was 3.1415926.

Now I use a computer, and don't care.

Ever read Sagen's book (later turned into a movie) "First Contact". Love the concept that if you take the number out far enough you'll find messages encoded by God. In other words, become so advanced you really need proof (or comeupance), and there it is!
