    I have a Samsung SyncMaster 151S (GG15LSVN). (15in.)

I booted up the puter the other day and out of nowhere my screen was dim. I had no indication that something was wrong .... it worked fine the day before.

Samsung won't give me any information on parts numbers .... or anything else for that matter ....

I don't know if the backlights have to be replaced or the inverter.

I would think it would be the inverter because of the sudden change, but wouldn't the screen be completely dark if the inverter were bad?

Not only that ... finding the correct parts ... I'm in the US and I found this place for the backlight ... and here for the inverter but I don't see my monitor listed and it doesn't have any of the numbers this place recogizes.

I measured the backlights at about 305mm a little more than that .... but I'm not sure if I need an inverter or the backlights.

A guy on another board that worked on LCD monitors stated he never had to replaced any backlights only inverters.

So I need help detemining which part is bad and which is the correct part to replace them with.

So are there any LCD techs in the house?

Are you certain that there are no power saving functions enabled? I've seen LCD's go dim to conserve energy. I would check in the properties of the desktop, on the screen saver tab.

Hi thanks for responding ..... Quite sure ... I hooked the monitor to my laptop with the same results ... I have an old monitor hooked up now and it works fine ... so yes I'm sure.

I have to replace something .... the question is what?

Is it the inverter or the backlights? I have a very dim screen .... I can bearly see anything ... it was very difficult to shut down the system because I had trouble finding the mouse pointer, it was extremely faint. No color distortion at all.

How do I detemine which is bad?

ok from what i know if the screen is dim you need new tubes, usually if its just dim thats what bad, if its an inverter its the screen will not work at all, it goes into self protect mode and shuts off liek a tv does, read here for more info http://laptops.home.att.net/lcd-repair.htm

Well according to your link ... dim and faint means the backlight .... hummmm.

Very confusing .... similar symptons for both parts ...

IMO, a 15" LCD isn't worth repairing. You could probably buy a 17" LCD for the time and money you spend trying to fix this one. :)

No the backlights if bad will run $40 .... if it's the inverter it will run $60 .... it's worth fixing ..... just need to find out which part is needed.

None of the major geek have had this problem?
