Everything Hitting At Once

Does the below belong in the Lounge, or this forum? i wasn't sure which.

Foreword: I prefer wired Lenovo thinkpad, with ports, and wired modem/router, and my old-faithful HP 1018 laser-printer.

What i mean by everything hitting at once, and unsure what to tackle first, is that:

    (1) MS will soon stop supporting Windows 7, and Win-10 may guzzle my system.
(This was already hashed out in my previous thread)

    (2) For many years i've been using Magic Jack as my home phone, and i'm fine with it (i'm using GO now). I might have defected to Linux long ago, if not for the fact that Magic Jack isn't compatible with Linux. So my question is - whether i'd still be able to use my older systems, such as XP or Win7 for the sole purpose of getting potential future versions of Magic-Jack programmed, but otherwise mainly use Linux?

    (3) Oath took over YahooMail, and at the end of January i believe people will be forced to agree to gross privacy invasion so now i may need to migrate my two yahoomail accounts to two of my gmail accounts. But gmail doesn't seem to offer folders, yet my yahoo accounts are set up with folders, so i don't know how i can work that out. (BTW, not that i trust gmail either, but now, from what i gather, yahoo became worse. When i plow into Gmail to try to set up security to Dis-Allow them from sharing my data, I can't figure out how the heck to do it, since its info is very cryptic.

Tangential Footnote - I realize members/moderators might wish to avoid this topic - but since it's relevant - i'll again state that if i could only go "abracadabra" and become Non-electrosensitive, then i'd be more free to get any new equipment like most people, and not have to worry about outgaussing emf's & outgassing-electronics-chemicals zapping me. But it's not just that - i have basic-internet via cable @ a basic cost of $25 per month.

    1. Patches will be issued through January 2020 for Windows 7 so you have a bit more than a year to decide what you are going to do.

    2. No idea on your phone situation. We still have a copper wired phone which we prefer for a) our hard wired security system with automatic phone dialer when anything sets off the alarm and b)my husband's pacemaker device that sends reports to the cardiologist every 3 months.

    3. I've been using Yahoo/Oath since agreeing to the privacy policy months ago. I haven't noticed any difference.
I'm not sure what you mean about gmail not offering folders. I have "folders". gmail calls them labels but they act exactly like folders on all my other email accounts.
    Check your settings

    Scroll down to Activity Controls.

As you can see, I have everything turned off. google_activity.jpg
I also set my browser to clear cookies when I close it.

The only way other email services can access your gmail data is if you set up your gmail account within them, so don't.

It's only for businesses on volume licensing, not for individuals.

Which privacy policy did you agree to? Plenty of people were complaining about Oath takeover, and i recall that there was no way of escaping from their imminent privacy invasion. Their "agreement" had seemed complicated & risky to agree to.

Oops, thanks! I now realize that i had actually set up Labels for myself, but i'd forgotten they're actually folders, because of the way their programmers had set up the interface, so it's unclear they're actually folders.

Uh... i don't get what this is about. I tried finding Activity Controls within Settings, but couldn't find it.

I see, thanks. Thing is, i don't wanna pay. Also i have Home Premium.
They just never leave the masses alone. Long ago, the internet had been intended to connect people in a relaxing way.
Now, the situation is diametrically opposite. It's calculated to be divisive and unrelaxing.

The only one that was presented to me.

I'm aware that EVERY email provider can go through my emails, if they want. I never send anything sensitive through email. I also have ads blocked so if they hope to target me with specific ads based on my emails, I never see the ads.
Snail mail isn't much better in the US. Pictures are taken of the front and back of every piece of mail sent.
If you use a VOIP phone or a cellphone, I'll bet your conversations aren't considered private by the companies you are paying for the "phone" service.
The ISP assigns you an IP and also knows where you surf. If they didn't, the websites you go to wouldn't load. Just like the mail doesn't get delivered if the Post Office doesn't know your address.

Did you ever read what banks/credit card companies do with your information on the so-called "privacy policy"? It's a joke. Even if you leave the bank and drop that credit card, they have your information and can share it.

Yes i know - but the question boils down to which is the worst of the evils: Verizon-Oath, or Google? I decided to skip opening an Outlook acct. since all email companies now require phone-verification. And since i have gmail from the past (even i've already become compromised with Google, since back then i was naive regarding ID-invasion), i might as well transfer to Gmail.

    My questions are:

If i decide to try defecting to Linux, will my phone still work? Relevant to this Q, is that my MagicJack GO device which had been activated via Win-XP is currently plugged into the wall, and phone svc. via the device is quite stable, but when my 5-years GO contract expires in approx. 2 years, by then there may well be an upgrade incompatible with even this Win-7 system...

    And as another separate question:

Say i hypothetically have Folders Jones & Drones & Clones on Yahoo
....and Labels Jones & Stones on Gmail

Would Gmail's importing process automaticlly create Drones & Clones Labels in gmail, for the purpose of automatically importing allthe emails contained within the Drones & Clones Yahoo-Folders?

I know most people do that (such as thunderbird) but i'm not up to handling yet another learning curve that requires lots of room. I did just buy a 64gb flash-drive, untested yet, and i don't know if that's large enough to accommodate my emails from the past decades, most of which aren't worth keeping anyway.

BTW, can you migrate all your folders from an email-client to Gmail, such that they're grouped as Labels?

And can ADVIK can be used to migrate both my Yahoo-Inbox and my Yahoomail-Folders to my Gmail account?

Eldon - since i feel urgent about this, i'll close this thread & will open a new one regarding EssentialPIM-migration, since i just now downloaded the client. Thanks.
