I am having this really odd problem. This one should be a challenge...

Nothing on my computer that is e-mail or IM-related works. Literally, I cannot access ANY of these sites:

    gmail.com
    mail.yahoo.com
    mail.aol.com

Whenever I go to these URLs the page just refuses to load, and sometimes it even says page not available, or something along these lines.
Just to test my suspicions, I have tried signing for an account at mail.com, and that didn't even work! Something is SERIOUSLY messed up!

However, I AM allowed to access google.com, live.com, yahoo.com, and aol.com! This is so weird.

Does it have to do with weird port / imap / smtp settings or something like this? Sorry, I have absolutely no knowledge of networking.

In addition I have tried getting to these sites from the three major web browsers (Chrome, Internet Explorer 8, Mozilla Firefox...) but nothing seems to work!

AND none of my IM programs work, either!

    Skype
    Google Talk
    Live Messenger

It just seems as though EVERYTHING mail or IM-related is broken. I feel deprived! Anyone have a solution?

    Thanks in advance.

(Strange, because I know HTML, CSS, JavaScript, VB, ActionScript, but absolutely no knowledge of networking).

    Hi

    What Windows version you using?

Do you access these email accounts online (likely as you have mentioned trying all browsers) or via a client like Outlook, Outlook Express, Windows Live Mail or Thunderbird etc? Could try adding say the Gmail account to an email client to see if it comes through ok their.

Do all other sites work ok?

I would first clear your temps and cookies out and CCleaner is good for this, then open a CMD (Command Prompt, if Vista or Win7 needs to be elevated, right click CMD and Run as Administrator) then type ipconfig /flushdns and hit enter, do this a few times to clear the DNS cache.

Then check your HOSTS file for those URLs being entered their, as malware can cause this type of behaviour, HOSTS are found in %SystemRoot%\system32\drivers\etc\

Run your antivirus app and say Malwarebytes to see if they find any malware if they do then run the below
