I have been reading a lot about the program EVGA Precision which is used to overclock NVidia video cards, change the fan speed, create gaming performance profiles, etc. Anyway, I was under the impression it only worked with cards from EVGA. Well, I just got a Zotac GTX260 and the program works perfect with it, and it's REALLY easy to use! Highly recommended! If you're looking for an overclocking and tweaking tool for your new generation NVidia video card, look no further than EVGA Precision. It's like RivaTuner but a bit easier to use (RivaTuner isn't really hard to use, but EVGA Precision is easier).

LOL, Precision is basically a crippled Ver. of RivaTuner and I found it be inadequate for my needs. I have an ASUS P5Q Pro with a pair of eVGA 9800GT's and Precision basically peeved me off, I'd have to reload it to remember what it was that annoyed me. However Precision does have a cuter GUI.;)

BTW, it took me all of 2 minutes to figure out Rivatuner and I'm no experienced overclocker at all. I guess I can chalk this one up to personal preference.

Yeah, for SLI I'd go with Riva also. Riva is by no means hard to use, it's just that Precision is so "in-your-face" that it's impossible to be confused or lost, even for 2 seconds. With Riva, it takes about 15 seconds of clicking here and there until you discover what's where (or you can simply use one of the MANY guides online like this one or maybe this one), but Precision is right there.... and Riva has MANY, MANY more features.....

But I do have a question... in the screen shot below, on the right, Precision shows my core and shader clocks as 650 and 1400 respectively; but on the left it shows them as being 301/602. :confused Is this due to 'built-in' profiles in the GTX260? Like it 'underclocks' when just surfing and farting around in Windows, but then it 'opens up' when gaming?

(I'm new to overclocking my personal gear, so this is a journey of discovery. And, yes, I did manually turn up the fan speed to 70% from the stock 40% to lower the temps)

Yes that is exactly it, when surfing it underclocks the card so it does not run so hot all the time when doing nothing. :)

    :-D That's what I thought! Thanks....

The card idled a bit hot (about 50c) so I turned up the fan to 70% and now it idles at 35c... during crazy gaming sessions, it doesn't get over 55-60c, and running Furmark full screen at 8x AA it maxes out about 70c after about 45min....
    :)

thtas pretty good temps, i got a GTX 280 and they get much hotter than that, heavy gaming it gets around 70C it usually crashes about 80C but i only do that when i forget to turn my fan up before i start playing :(
