I'm studying a golf handicap spreadsheet that uses the function "AVERAGES!", and I don't understand the formula... (=IF(Averages!AE7=0,Averages!AG7,Averages!AE7).

I understand the standard "AVERAGE" formula and the "IF" statement, but can't find any explanation regarding "AVERAGES!". Looking at the spreadsheet, I don't understand how the above formula produces the results it does.

The above formula is duplicated on every line of the spreadsheet in the 'Handicap' column, and produces the dersired results... but I don't understand why. The 'Rules' worksheet explains what is happening in that column.

I'd like to create a similar, but different spreadsheet for another group of golfing friends. But first I need to understand the formula used in the 'Handicap' column.

Also, if anybody can explain how to create the macro that's used in the "Ad New Week" button, it would be appreciated. It creates a blank column in column 'E' and moves the others columns to the right.

Below is a link to the actual spreadsheet:

    Thanks

Have you figured this out yet?
AVERAGES! refers to another sheet called AVERAGES. So AVERAGES!AE7 picks up a value from the AVERAGES sheet at cell AE7.
Check at the bottom of the worksheet you are in and you should see a tab called AVERAGES. If it is not there, it may be hidden. To unhide it, go to Format>Sheet>Unhide.
That should give you a list of all hidden sheets, and you can select AVERAGES from there.
I can't answer your Macro question because the workbook link has been removed.
