Excel lookup function

Hello,

I am wondering if there is a function in excel like lookup that will actually find the exact match and return n/a error if it does not find it?

I find it idiotic that it will match values that are not exact bringing back the next >= value to the search value.

Another idiotic requirement is that you must have the lookup vector sorted in ascending order. But thats on a side note.

Any ideas here?

 

Can you use an IF? By itself or as part of something else?

Take a look at HLookup if you haven't - don't think it minds about sorting but you lay it out slightly differently.

Or perhaps Match, though I don't think so (don't remember the details) and one that looks worth playing around with is NA().

 

Yes.

Advanced search allows you the option of "equal to" and to look up values within a range that is not sorted.

You should also know the advance search allows you to set yes no properties based on set criteria.

 

Well what function is that there is no Advanced search?

I found search but it does not seem to be it. Can you give me a code example?

If you are referring to V&Hlookup, can you not just put 'false' as the fourth argument (range lookup)?
