I use Libre Office available here at Major Geeks. There's also Open Office, also available here. Both are freeware or open source and can open MS Office/Excel files and save them as MS Office/Excel should you need to use them with MS Office/Excel. I agree with you. Especially the subscription for Office 365.

OpenOffice and LibreOffice are both free and both very good. The only difference between the spreadsheet portions of these programs and MS Excel is that Excel has a macro language, which can be used to automate features of Excel (and other Office programs like Access, etc.).

MS does have OneDrive and its free online Excel app, which you can use to create spreadsheet documents. The macro language (VB) is not supported, and I cannot speak for the extent of the features, although it seems to be much less featured than a normal spreadsheet from what I can tell.

I believe all that is required is an Outlook.com account to use OneDrive. It's all integrated together, so you go into your new e-mail account and click on the square top left. There you will see all the options available to you, such as OneDrive (Calendar, Word, Excel, and so on) and Contacts, etc.

By the way, there is even a portable version of LibreOffice. This is great as you can install the program onto a flash drive or portable hard drive.

I use Open Office and am satisfied with it but I don't need spreadsheets so can't comment on that feature. Of the two free programs mentioned one may suit you better than the other. I know people who like LibreOffice also.

It is actually VB6 morphed into VBA, and not just a macro language.
