Excel 2003 veeeery slow (opening, editing, and saving), even with very small, 22kb, spreadsheet stored on laptop.
All other Office 2003 programs working fine.
Only (2) simple macros, which have had long time b4 'slowness' started.
Tried Menu/Help/Detect and Repair..., no help.
Same file used on desktop PC works fine.
Maybe laptop missing/blocked .dll... if so, how to figure out which one ?
Thoughts on where to look for help ?

That should give you an error, not just slow down a program. Still, you could try the System File Checker from a Command Prompt:
    Code:
    sfc /scannow
You may need your Windows install disk for that.

Other than that I would try a defrag of your C: drive.

Try running it in safe mode: Prett sure the command is this on your system.

    "C:\Program Files \Microsoft Office\OFFICE11\EXCEL.EXE" /s

P.S. also do a Google search for 'slow excel'; there are LOTS of information out there what could slow down Excel.

If you have plugins I guess that would help if you uninstall or disable those.

    Thanks for the feedback...
    1. have been using sfc /scannow (with install disk) about once per week, usually only do once per month
    2. defrag once per month, after chkdsk, etc

    Thanks for the suggestion.
Default list of add-ins, and using none... except Adobe Acrobat is on toolbar.

Have done a fair amount 'browsing', but most seems to be about using Excel on 'network' etc.
Havent yet found anything that seems to help.
Guess thats why, after browsing something until get exhausted, I come here rolleyes

Took a look at Office2003 install disk, but not sure want to try a complete re-install.
Has a 'repair' option, but that didnt seem to help.
The individual program options seem to offer re-install or remove only... ie need to do complete re-install and not just Excel.
Any thoughts on the re-install option ?

    Thank for the reply.

    From original Office2003 installation disk...

    1. Ran 'Setup.exe' / 'Reinstall or Repair' / 'Detect and Repair errors in my Office installation', and it indicated all files had been repaired.

    2. Also ran 'Add or Remove Features', checking all Office programs, and did 're-install' of programs.

    ...but no help from either.

Good news, maybe(?), Excel seems to work fine in 'safe mode'.

Still feel need to totally uninstall/reinstall Office2003 ?
