    Hello,

Im about to tear my hair out, here is my situation I really hope someone can help.

I have recently brought a laptop with built in wireless G, before this I had two desktops, one of them linked to a usb cable modem (via usb) and the pc linked via crossover. I setup a peer to peer wireless network between my usb connected pc and my laptop, they connect at excellent signal strength but the transfer rate is 1.0mbps, it suddenly drops from 54 to this. I tried changing all the channels etc etc but to avail. So what i did then was to get the access point i was using on my xbox and plug the modem into that, so basically all pc's will be wireless, but the trouble here is, i can either have my desktops on the internet, or my laptop, at no time can a desktop and laptop both access the internet. To switch between the two, i have to power off the cable modem and then select repair on the one i want to user for net access.

Any help on either of these issues would be appreciated,

    Thanks Lee.

p.s my network adapter in the pc is also a G.

I too am having a similar issue. It almost seems like something is jamming the wireless signal.

I have experienced this now with 2 different brands of G Routers: Belkin and Linksys. They both worked like a champ for about 5 days, then began dropping the connection and not being able to find it again. When it does re-connect after several minutes, it shows excellent signal strength but 1.0 Mbps.

I have tried power cycling the Cable Modem and Router several times with the same results.

    Any ideas?

umm im not sure exactly what the x-box thing is, and i am a little confused at your setup. I understood what you were saying maybe im just tired... it sounds to me like you need to get a Router that supports wireless here is an example:

    http://www.linksys.com/products/product.asp?grid=33&scid=35&prid=601

it has 4 ports for cat-5 network cable, and supports more wireless connections then a home user would ever need ;)

like i said not sure if this is what you were looking for...
    --------
as for problems with not getting full bandwidth usage, im not sure... do you have problems with bandwidth when you are right next to your router? Please explain what is around the router, were you are located with the wireless devices?

Keep in mind that electronic devices will cause interfearance, especially if you have a microwave nearby. Even a computer monitor can cause interfearance. I think the funniest is when i leave my cell phone next to my computer monitor for example and when it checks network status, or the phone gets an incoming phone call my monitor starts acting like i just waved a magnet infront of it.
