Within outlook 2003 one can create a public folder. In exchange 2003 you can assign a unique email address to this public folder, without actually creating the account. This was done a few years ago.

Forward to yesterday, we had a system admin accidently delete our personal public folder associated to helpdesk@email.com.

Well, first thought was to use a free tool to recover the public folder, which worked for recovering the contents also. But, I had to re-enable the account, and associate the proper email address. Unfortunately, I can't email the public folder. Basically it gives an error that the user does not exist.

So, then I decided to create a different public folder and assign a unique email address to it. Emailed it, that worked. Deleted the public folder, recreated it, added the same email adress, still worked.

So, this has, in my mind, to be a corruped account.

As a temp measure, I've created a user account, with the same email address associated with the old public folder.

My current situation that I love to get resolved: Under the GAL (Global Address List), I want to delete the Helpdesk public folder entry and not the Helpdesk user account entry in the GAL. The best part is that they both of the same email address, but, all email now gets routed to the user account, since the public folder doesn't work.

I have tried using LDP, ADSiedit, repadmin, using RUS (Recipient Update Service).

Thanks for any help you can provide.
