My friend sent me an .exe file which I can' seem to run. I keep getting this error message:

"Windows found that this file is potentially harmful.
To help protect your computer, Windows has blocked access to this file."

Is there any way I can avoid this message from appearing again so I can access this program?

Assuming you got SP2 installed....yes, though not recommended, here is how:
Right-click on My Computer icon > Properties > Advanced > Settings button (under Performance) > You will see the Data Execution Prevention tab and modify the security settings here... hope that was the cause.

Welcome to MG. Ask your friend what the .exe file is about. Windows may be being ultra careful, but the file could be potentially harmful. Me, I would delete it. Visit your friend and let him open it up on HIS computer. How good are your protection measures. AntiVirus, Firewall, other detection programs? If not 100%, then forget this *.exe file. Bazza

PS: Do a google search on the *.exe file. Could prove worthwhile. Baz
