When exiting sites I sometimes get a popup saying “Are you Sure? This page is asking you to confirm that you want to leave – data you have entered may not be saved”. There is never any logos or indication where the boxes come from. Isn’t it a good idea never click these boxes since it could be an attempt to install malware?

Welcome aboard. Yes, you're quite right. If you can, kill those pages through your browser rather than even clicking the red x. Have you protected yourself as recommended in the sticky in the malware forums?

Guess it depends on the site and if you trust it or not, better to err on the side of caution I imagine. Can always quit the browser through Task manager if needs be too.

Just so people know, can you state whether or not you are using Firefox or another browser? Thanks.

Obviously, the message is just meant to scare you.

It's kind of a bogus meaningless question, too, since you rarely "enter data" on a web page except to fill in a form.

That type of warning is much more appropriate for a text editor or word processor, etc.

The best way to Close the page is from the Keyboard using Ctrl+W
    This works in:
    • Internet Explorer 8
    • Firefox / Pale Moon 7.0.1
    • Opera 11.52

You can also Close the Browser with Alt+F4 or use the Windows Task Manager by selecting the Processes tab,
selecting the program or process you want to quit, and then click End Process.
