expand.exe

A friend of mine still using xp and ie8 is getting an error message expand.exe error
any ideas
he is unable to afford new pc

 

As JoeRay 12 said, it's a OS file error. If you/your friend have/has an OS install CD, you could try sfc/ scannow.

If you suspect malware, head over to the Malware Removal Forums and go through Read and Run Me First then, start a new thread there.

Microsoft is trying to kill off XP entirely. If your friend's computer has a 1 GHz processor or faster, 2 GB of RAM and DirectX 9 capable graphics, he/she may want to upgrade his/her OS to Vista, 7 or 8/8.1.
