Hi - I have no idea what is happening with my computer, but whenever I try to go to any web page I always get an explorer window that pops up saying there has been an illegal operation and it will not shut down....then I close that box another box appears saying that an error has occurred in Internet Explorer and it will not close.

I have no idea what is going on. Things I have changed.........I uninstalled my Avant anti-virus as I decided to go with a local anti-virus program my phone company is supplying (but so far I am not impressed with it - I loved the Avant) and I tried to reinstall IE 6 in the hopes that it would correct itself.

This happened a few months ago and that is when I installed the Avant and it found some problems with the memory and it cleared it up in no time and everything was fine........but now since I switched virus programs......HELP!!!!

Any info would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks,
    Carady

Avant is a browser.. I assume you mean Avast! ?
Why not go back to using your other Antivirus if it worked well for you?

I am sorry, I realized after that that I said Avant and I meant Avast. I also forgot to mention that I am running Windows 98.

Do you think it is possibly a virus that is being missed by my current anti-virus program? If I go back to Avast should I uninstall my current anti-virus first and then download the new one..........sorry so many questions, but I am kind of stupid when it comes to this kind of stuff.

yes, uninstall your current one and then reinstall avast. then run a scan on your pc.

I uninstalled the current anti-virus program I was using and re-installed the program that I originally liked. When I ran a scan it showed a couple of files infected by a virus (can't recall the name), but I either deleted or repaired the files, whichever it would let me do. I have had Hotbar installed on my computer for what seems like forever and it showed a problem with some files in hotbar, it wouldn't let me repair or delete them and when I went into program files and scanned hotbar folder by itself the scan came up clean. I am at a real loss on what to do next. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated as I use my computer to do medical transcription out of my home and this is causing a lot of problems with my work when I search the internet.

    Thanks.
    ;)
