I have Windows XP home edition as an OS. There are three explorer.exe files I found doing a disk search. One is in C:\WINDOWS, one is in C:\WINDOWS\ServicePackFiles\i386 and the other is in C:\WINDOWS\SoftwareDistribution\Download\then a long bunch of letters and numbers

Is this normal to find the explorer.exe in these three places. Should I delete any of them?

At your peril! It is perfectly normal to have several copies - they are each there for a reason.

Caliban I don't need no steenkin' title!

Just make sure they're running from your root Windows folder.

IMO, it is also a result of poor/lazy programming. If you are able to run a program that detects duplicate files, you will see many instances of where many files are duplicated ranging from icons, gifs, to *.exe files because it is easier to do so, the thinking being that because of the huge capacity of hard drives nowadays, it is no longer necessary to be smarter/concise in programming. The olde DOS method of using the program's PATH command is no longer used to its' full effectiveness. :cry
