Explorer.exe problem?

Hi. I've been trying to resolve a problem over in a different forum. THey got most of my problems fixed, but said I should come over here and see if you guys could help with the remainder. My brother's computer is running XP & for some reason, his start bar & desktop icons have disappeared and I've been unable to get them back. I have to access everything thru the task mananger. I've tried to run explorere.exe from the task manager, but it just flashes back to a blank screen.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I'm not sure how to link to the other thread where we did all sorts of scans and things, but it's the last thread I posted before this one if you need to see it.

What happens if you were to click on File, RUN, then CMD (enter)

Next type in the following:

cd\windows
copy explorer.exe explorer.com (enter)
explorer.com (enter)

Ignore my post, what metacumbie posted might just work. I need to look at the vb script to find out what it does.

 

That script should work, perhaps I should take up vb scripting after I tackle ruby on rails.....

 

Solved!

Ended up having to reinstall Windows XP from the disk that came with the computer. Thank you all SO MUCH for your help! Sorry I was so computer dense!
