I have a new eMachine. The CPu is unknown (according to Aida). It has an ATA hard Drive by WDC WD1200BB-22FTA0. Cpuid is an Intel Celeron 2.66 GHz. The BIOS is Phonix Award and the motherboard is from First International Computer, Inc, VC37 Series.

I've been having problems with explorer exe using all of the CPU and not allowing me to do anything on the computer. When it is running, I go into Task Manager, and it is using anywhere from 95 to 99% of the CPU.

According to Microsoft, SP 2 was suppose to fix this problem. I did a complete restore last week hoping to fix it, but the problem remains.

    Thank you for your help

I ran safe mode and started 5 programs.........explorer.exe doesn't even show up in task manager, so I had no problems

That doesn't make sense. If explorer doesnt show up, then you don't have a shell to work with.
