Explorer.exe won't load

Hi for some reason my computer won't load many applications including explorer.exe. If you boot the system in normal mode you get a lot of memory exception error with (0xblahhhh) and "Breakpoint Errors" and then explorer.exe will come up with an error about sending an error report. If you boot in safe mode then only one (0xblahhhh) comes up but the error report warning comes up for explorer.exe again. I can run some commands from Ctrl+Alt+Delete. For instance I had to get a new copy of Registry Editor from a clean machine because it wouldn't load. One thing I noticed when the Memoryt exception and breakpoint errors came up I sat that the report had something to do with a file (appcompat.txt) and would have a random number in front of it. Like (99df _appcompat.txt). I tried to run hijack this but i wont run it gets that "error report" error.

I am running Windows XP SP2. Dell Inspiron E1405. I also have ran spybot but i still have the same problems.

 

I am having the same problem with Explorer. What I did, and what is working for me is that I also have a copy of MOZILLA FIREFOX loaded on this PC and when I cannot get Explorer to work I just use firefox, and I don't ever have a problem with that. Give firefox a try.
