Hmm well on my backup PC the explorer.exe isn't styaing open, on reboot or starting it manually...something is up I tried a repair install with it, still nothing, not sure what's up.

I'm not sure if this should be here or the Malware section but, it's possible it could be a virus or not, I tried safe mode, no avail.

I'm wondering if explorer.exe is corrupt, anyone hgave the intructions on replacing explorer.exe with Recovery console?

If this doesn't work then something weird is at work, problem is there is no weird programs running, i've tried diagnostic startup still nothing.

    START | RUN | CMD | OK

In the command windows type SFC /SCANNOW

    Have your XP cd handy.

Yeah I just tried that, half way through it asks for my XP Home Edition CD, which is crazy cause I have it in there lol. So luckily I can stgill run Sonic so I'm backing up data and gonan reformat it I guess.

I thinksomething was up with the Malicous Removal Tool cause I caught a process called "mrtstub.exe" running and I think it infected something.

mrtstub may or may not be related to malware.

Then again, Microsoft uses this for their Malware removal tool.

So, there could be some malware writer exploiting this. If you are unsure, then I recommend heading on over the the malware forums here at MG, just to be on the safe side.
