Can anyone tell me why "all of a sudden" when I enter exploer either through the shortcut in accessories or clicking on My Computer that when I double click on a folder instead of opening the folder contents for me it instead launches a windows search window. The only way to display the folder contents is to right click on it and choose explore.

Have you clicked the tools option and chosen file options and checked the file settings?

    Hi,

I can't tell you why it happens but it is a well known fluke in XP.

Try going to Kelly's Korner scroll down to #18. In the right colomn is the "Search Opens ...link"; right click the link and use "save the file as" to save the file to a .reg file. Then right -click the .reg file and select Merge. Agree to the warning box that will appear. It should solve the problem immediately.

Thanks for the tip!!! Kellys Korner fix did the trick!

    You're welcome!

Happened to me a couple of years ago and the Kelly's fix worked easily. Trying to change file associations manually didn't work for some reason, so I thought I would point you to the .reg file. :)
