My Norton Suite can remove the MSIE temporary files if I check off for it to do so.
Is this a wise action and can it be done manually within Explorer or control panel?

Its a good idea every once in a while to delete temp files from your system. I also delete cookies and cache every few days depending on how much browsing I am doing because all the clutter can slow down your browsing. To view temp IE files...

    >Click Tools under Internet Explorer
    >Now Click Internet Options
    >Now Click Settings under the Browser History
    >Now at the Next pop up window it will show you the Path for browser Temporary file folder location
    >click view files

All these files are stored simply for faster access but there is no harm in deleting them every once in a while.

I hope I understood your question correctly :confused

Also a programme called CCleaner gets rid of all these things with a click of a button and only takes seconds, maybe you should consider installing :cool

CCleaner is good. I also run Find Junk Files after CC and it finds IE temp files and history CC missed.

    Hello
Just for those who may be reading, do not run Ccleaner's registry cleaner. The advice given is for Windows only. Do not run a registry cleaner unless you are proficient with its operation.
I think I ws asking if the files in Norton, ie, explorer's temporary files are the same as the ones you can delete within explorer itself and I beleiieve they are.
    Thank you for your advice.

Yes Peter they are and Norton should do a fair job of doing this, but I think in part what the others are saying is that CCleaners Cleaner is ok for this also, you dont have to run the Registry component of CCleaner, just the Cleaner component.

Weirdly maybe worth a test if your feeling geeky today, in downloading CCLeaner Slim from HERE and installing but do not run yet.

Run Norton's cleaner tool, then run Ccleaners Cleaner tool (dont change any of the settings from default, apart from in the Windows tab, if you have a favoured location you download apps to that's not the normal Download location in Windows, untick the "last download location" option, also look in the Applications tab to see if there is any mention of Norton, if so they are Norton logs so untick all of them) then run the cleaner.

Alternatively just run Analyse, to see what CCleaner picks up on junk old temps that Norton may miss.

I don't know which version of CCleaner I have. I checked mine and it doesn't mention Registry anywhere.

    Hi

Open CCleaner and then the top bar should tell you what version (next to where it says CCleaner.com) and down the left hand side should say Registry as below

If you dont have latests version then do update HERE

The version I had was Slim but 3.6 so I just updated it.

So, is it okay to run the Registry cleaner? I ran it just now and noticed it picked up a couple of programs I deleted about a week ago.

    Hi

Good on the update and yes its fine to run, tbh its one of the safer registry cleaners as it doesn't go too deep in the registry HIVES but do make sure you safe the registry when prompted.

@Peter good to hear from you too my friend.

    >>Hi D - I viewed Explorer's files and they were plentiful. I thought keeping the box checked would keep the files cleaned out, but apparently not so.
I then ran Norton which reported that 27 MB of files were removed. I then ran Ccleaner's Windows and there were many files analyzed and then cleaned. I then viewed Explorer again and all of the files were gone.
Ccleaner wins hands down - I trust and hope it is safe to use occasionally.
    I appreciate the tip.
