Explorer woes

Sony Viao w/512 memory, p4-266, Windows XP-Home version 2002 sp=1

Can someone, anyone tell me why all of the sudden whenever I start IE or even windows explorer the install for Microsoft Money comes on and starts trying to install? I tried to let the install run but it messes up. I've deleted all my temp files, and cookies. Nothing

this next sentence is VERY important.
BACK UP YOUR REGISTRY BEFORE YOU DO ANYTHING

now that we've got that out of the way, lets proceed.


Go to start ...run.. type REGEDIT
when the dialogue box pops up click on "my computer" in the registry editor. Next click the registry menu item at the top left and then click export registry to file. Give it a name and specify a location. This is the back up of your current registry.

Next... follow the registry path to this location

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run

if you see some sort of installation for money in right pane.. delete it by doing this. click on it once to highlight it and then hit delete on your keyboard. Confirm it and then test the result by rebooting.

 

Ridding a StartUp Problem

To prevent future probs like this why not go for Startman which used to be on PCForrest now defunct site (where did you go Peter?).

money wasn't in the reg at all - at least not in that location... I don't use it so I ran the uninstall - it solved the problem. Don't ask me why I didn't try that first - you've done stupid things before!

Just don't understand what was going on. I have 25 people here that know less about pc's than me(who'da thunk it), and have never seen anything remotely like this...

Seriously though thinks for your help and suggestions!
