I recently purchased an e-Sata drive for storing all my media on, however I cannot get my laptop to recognise it when connected with Sata cable. The HD has USB 2.0 and firewire capability but I bought it for the data transfer speed as I stream media direct to my x-box. At present it is connected using USB 2.0 and it is fine, have got about 100GB of data on, which is 10% of it's capability. When connected by USB can see it in Disk Management, when connected through SATA cable, cannot see it in Disk Management or Computer. I am running Vista at present and hating it.

    Thanks

You are connecting the external drive to a laptop using esata? I suppose it is possible for laptops to have esata ports, but I have never seen one. I just wanted to make sure this was the case.

Would you give me your laptop's model number plz?

Have you tried having the external hard drive plugged in and turned on before you turn the laptop on?
