Any way to extend battery life of lithium batteries on a laptop ?

Not talking while using the laptop, but actual lifespan of the battery ?

Should I let it run down until the "low battery" pop-up displays, or should I charge it more frequently ?

Personally, I leave mine plugged in and charging when not in use. While some claim that draining the battery down to the low battery alert every so often extends the life, I've seen little evidence of this actually working.

If your current battery is failing, look for one on Amazon.com. Check the customer ratings to find the best brands - you can normally find a high quality replacement there for about 50-70% less than what the PC manufacturer or Best Buy charges.

    Hope this helps. :)

Mine is new, but thanks for the heads up on Amazon.

I'll be using the laptop at my desk most of the time, so I'll just leave it plugged up then.

When I got my netbook, there were instructions to condition the battery. I had to let it drain almost to zero% and then fully charge it, without using the netbook three times. I did that.

As gman pointed out, I too go against the advice and let my laptop and netbooks plugged in almost all the time. I have been happy with the life I've gotten out of the laptop and one netbook. The other netbook is still fairly new so I can't determine how long the battery will last.
