I just helped a friend sort out a few problems with his laptop running Vista. His wife uses a Mac to do freelance graphics. When I returned his laptop She asked:

Can I use 1 external HD to back up both computers?

I have No experience with Mac's. I don't know if it can be done.

    Idea's.

    Thanks

    It can.

Set the backup directory to a specific name for the Windows machine. OS X will use its own directory for time machine.

If they are both hooking up locally, you will need either:

An NTFS driver for OS X -or-
    An HFS+ driver for Windows.

In other words, you need to make each OS make the filesystem readable (and writable).

If you are doing it over a network, you won't need to worry about that.

This is my backup partition for Time Machine. As you can see it doesn't have to be dedicated to Time Machine.

Cool. Just name the Backup HDD (ie) G: for the laptop and the Mac will do it's own. They have a wireless network, So when they are ready to backup their info just use G: as the drive.

I'm still leaning. I'll read up on this some before I offer to help.

An NTFS driver for OS X -or-
An HFS+ driver for Windows Is this Backwards?;)

    Thanks James
