External device?

    My 5150 laptop's CD\DVD device died on me.I found this out when I went to try to do a clean install of xp.Can you reinstall xp and the system device disks with a external CD device that plugs into the USB port?I have done all troubleshooting possible with the manf.to confirm it was a bad drive also.

    Hmm, typically anything USB is auto detected, so it should, though in some cases you may need the driver disk.

    a cd or a diskette with drivers (software for controlling the device)
