External Drive Issue

Hello,
well one of my external drives is given me problems. Under my PC its there but not really, it pops up when I switch it on but it just shows the drive name and under it just NTFS and when clicking on it, it i gives me access is denied crap... NTFS isn't wrong all my hard drives are that...googled a bit and all the sites listed ownership issue at no 1 so I did that and now it does show on my PC correctly with 2,14tb free of 3,63tb HOWEVER when I open it, it says "This folder is empty" What do I do now??? I have this program called CDcheck and currently its checking the drive, right at the start got just this error message: error;win32;Access is denied. (code: 5);R:\found.000\dir0000.chk\$Txf but I did have to stop it since I needed to go to bed but it did show other errors with dir0001-3 with files not being found...
so how do I get my data back?
Under tools from properties did error checking and it found nothing
Other Program CrystalDiskInfo says good under health status

Thank you so much for taking the time to read my issue and give me help but it's moot now, today it just shows "local disk (R" and when I click on it, before i can use it i have to format it.. So I will have to do that or is there something else i can do?

 

Also since I took ownership of that drive my recycle bin doesn't work.. and i mean when i delete a file from a different disk it doesn't go into the bin and under properites the "don't move files to the recycle bin. Remove files immediately when deleted." IS NOT ticked... however soon as I turned off this external drive it works again... very weird... Why is that connected?
