external floppydrive problem,help

    friend of mine have a toshiba 470cdt laptop with a external floppydrive. os is xp pro (no sp1).problem is that it ask to insert a diskette in drive A: but does not acknowledge ANY diskette. It shows up on hardware list, and have tried to uninstall/install and update drivers, hardware to no awail. Advise is needed.

    Agreed. Update Windows.

    Make sure you have all the chipset drivers for the laptop as well.

    How is it connected? USB?
