External hard disk problem..

    i am using a WD external hard disk, but sadly after i format it to exFAT type, i cant detected it anymore - -" anyone have any idea why?

    XP requires a specific add-on pack from Microsoft to enable ex-FAT. Have you installed this pack?

    Hi
    Was the drive formatted on your XP PC or from a Vista, Win7 PC?

    Any reason why you need to go exFat as its just an update to Fat32 to allow large volume sizes and if your XP internal HDD isvformstted NTFS I would format to that option as its much more robust, unless you are using the driver on multiple PCs that still could've formatted in Fat32.

    However while you can format a HDD to exFat its not really recomdnded as its very hit and miss with XP for it to work well or at all, its original purpose was to keep up with the ever larger flash storage drives that where appearing.

    icic, learned alot from here =) i format it using xp pc, i though exFAT was the same as FAt32, and read some article saying it's better, which was why i tried to format it - -"
