what had happened was after i finished changing the drive letter assoc. with my external hard drive from F: to E:, i accidently deleted the partition for it. Im hoping there is a way to recover it, cuz there were a ton of files on there. I have not formatted the external hard drive since then, in the event i can regain access to all my files. any helped would be tremendously appreciated.

Check the data recovery downloads here at Major Geeks. I also recommend using Easy Recovery Pro 6 but it isn't free (most good recovery programs aren't free)..... PC Inspector is about the only free product I'm aware of and it does great job of recovering data. It's a bit confusing the first time or two you use it, but it works great, even if it is a bit slow. Be sure to create a new, empty folder to put the recovered files in. Put this new folder in your root directory (ie; put right on C:\... no subfolder). Here's the link to PC Inspector File Recovery: http://www.pcinspector.de/file_recovery/uk/welcome.htm
