External Hard Drive

Hi, ok im pulling my hair out,a few days ago i sent some mp3s to my husbands external hd from my external hd, all of a sudden i get message that my hd is unaccessable ,corrupt and unreadable, i have tried chkdsk,no luck,did a fix boot on partition doctor as i found that the mft was corrupt, after many hours of scanning it couldnt help.whats the best program for me to recover all my mp3's? 300gb worth,dont want to reformat until ive tried everything(easy).

The simple first try the following;

u may have tried this already if u have windows opr system try the following
with the pc powered down plug in the usb connection to the external hd and
connected to the pc also have the power plug to the hd un pluged (not
running), startup the pc to the full windows screen and then apply power the
the external hard drive. watch to see if the new device icon appears in the
lower right of the widows screen if it does check my computer for the hard
drive and see if u can explore the drive.
if u have the drive but can not read it leave the usb connected an remove
the power from the external hard drive wait until the drive has stopped then
re power it back up refresh my computer and try to explore the drive.
the external hard drives have what appears to be a protect in them and will
lock out at times.

do u have any software that can see the paritions on a hard drive?

If it see the drive and the files u have a good chance of recovery.

and run this diagnostic.

If it is still in warranty call or contact Maxtor and see what they have to say.
