    Hello All,

I want to have an external hard disk as a back up drive.
Should I buy external drive, like this one?

    Seagate Freeagent 500GB External Hard Drive USB2.0 7200RPM 8MB Retail Box (ST305004FDA1E1-RK)

Or should I buy a case, and a hard disk, like this?

nGear External Aluminum 3.5IN IDE Hard Drive Enclosure USB2.0 Black (CE-3015)
    and
    Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 500GB SATA2 3GB/S 7200RPM 16MB Cache NCQ Hard Drive (ST3500630AS)

I have noticed that they are only good for 500Gb. What I really want is 1Tb, so is there any good way of getting that 1Tb? I can't run a server at home, so this is not an option. Thanks.

YOU MAY BE BETTER OFF GOING WITH SOMETHING LIKE THIS UNLESS YOU HAVE OBJECTIONS TO CERTAIN BRANDS. SORRY BOUT THE CAPS THE KEYBOARD AT WORK IS BROKEN. HOWEVER THIS IS PRETTY MUCH JUST STORAGE. IF YOU ARE LOOKING FOR AN ENCLOSURE THAT HAS MORE SERVER BASED APPLICATIONS YOU MAY WANT TO LOOK AT A NAS ENCLOSURE.

you could get that and have your 1TB...but it would be cheaper to buy 2 500GB HDD...and depending on certain factors...safer too.

Regardless of price, I'd buy the hard drive and enclosure seperately, and put 'em together myself, that's me tho'... I like putting my own stuff together, that way I'm more familiar with it; hands on so to speak. Depending on the enclosure, you can usually get 'em for $20 or $30. I put an external together using an 80gb 7200rpm laptop drive (no external power needed, all the juice comes thru the USB port) and the whole thing, drive and enclosure, was under $60.....

    Re: Caps Lock key broken

You can overcome this problem, apart from getting another keyboard of course, is to go to Start-->All Programs--->Accessories-->Accessability
Then select On-Screen keyboard (OSK). See attached.

This will load OSK on your desktop. You can then mouse click on Lock (Caps Lock) to turn it on or off. :cool You can also use it as a keyboard as well. :D

    Hello All,

This is what I ended up getting:
    Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 500GB SATA2 3GB/S 7200RPM 16MB Cache NCQ Hard Drive
Vantec Nexstar 3 3.5IN eSATA USB2.0 SATA Blue Aluminum Hard Drive Enclosure W/ Power Adapter

I have 3 Seagate drives in my house, they all work great.
The enclosure works very well, live up to my expectation.
The cooling could be improved, and the LED is TOOOOOO bright. As in blindingly bright.

I have transferred over 200Gb in there now, pretty fast transfer.
