i got a sabrent external enclosure for my seagate 1tb and i know i installed it correctly but windows 7 says that the device isnt recognized and needs drivers (code 28). it shouldnt even need a driver. its worked before, but my power cord died and i had a new external sent and it hasnt worked from the start. i wish i had a desktop to test the hd but i dont.

the hd doesnt rev, doesnt click, but i get the unrecognized message in 7... i also alternately get device unplugged. ive tried using all my usb ports and rebooting several times.. could it be a loack of windows updates? im dl'n those now

No I don't think it will be driver problem most USB drivers are loaded as soon as windows 7 is installed,to check do to control panel, device manager and expand usb controllers,if your USB drivers aren't installed there will be yellow exclamation marks next to them,if the code 28 is on the usb controllers then yes drivers may help.

Do other usb devices work in that usb port?

The fact that you'd had a power failure and now the drive doesn't work would make me suspect the drive has either been damaged when the psu blew or it was the enclosure that caused the psu to die, could you post the information on the side of both power supplies?

The first thing I would try would be to remove the drive from the enclosure and connect it to an internal sata port, make sure the drive spins and is visable in bios then check it's accessible in windows, connecting the enclosure to another computer would also help verify functionality.

Once the drive is verified working I would then investigate a setting/software solution.

Wow I'm not doing well today, its a laptop:-D Ignore my sata testing paragraph too although as you probably know that is the best course of action.

Check the manufactures website for a driver,if your product needs a driver it should here or listed as no driver needed.
