I have a VOX V1 external HD and would like to use it as an internal HD in an older computer that lacks USB 2 and E-SATA inputs. Is the drive contained within the VOX able to be used this way, or would I be better off to just buy a 500 GB internal drive? I originally got the drive to use on a network for storage but have never been able to get it to function as such. If I could get it to function on the network that would also be a solution since the old PC will be on the network eventually.

Thanks for any suggestion or help.

Don't know how old your pc is but have you considered possibly a pci usb card to make it usb capable? Just a suggestion.

    Follow up.
I opened the VOX V1 case, extracted the WD drive, and installed it as a slave in the PC. Then I repartitioned it using Windows XP administrative tools to get rid of the now retired backup files, and voila' I have a 500 GB drive to put my CD collection on, and whatever films I compress for viewing on my PALM TX when traveling. With the compression routine I can fit 7 feature length movies on a 2 GB SD card. Not the greatest quality but certainly good enough to pass the time on a jet. Coupled with a set of BOSE Quietcomfort 2 headphones instant escape is available.

Was it a SATA connection? If not, I'll know that the review gave false info.

Yes it was. My error in the question was due to a misinterpretation of the plug sockets on the back of the unit. Inside it was a typical SATA drive, and was a no brainer to install. In the end I think it resulted in a better arrangement. The tower is in the cabinet now where the old CRT TV was. Over all a sweet deal because the 47" VIZIO LCD TV can serve as a monitor when I use iTunes
to play the CD collection that will reside on the 500 GB drive. Maybe even an occasional game besides Solitare will get played. By the way the VIZIO is a great deal, has more than ample inputs, and a 120 hz scan rate. My video card can't match that. Simply fabulous high res picture.

    Best regards, Duncan
