    Hello all,

This is my first post here and I'm sure the question has already been asked before.

I have a 60 gig external HD that I use for my work back up. It is recognized by my Dell laptop but when I plug it into my home PC I hear the windows sound telling me there is new hardware found but as soon as I hear the connection sound I hear the disconnect sound.

I'm running windows xp pro on both and usb2. I have no other known issues with my home pc and have several other usb device connected. Printer, scanner, IPOD, PDA, wireless keyboard & mouse and a logitec wireless audio transmitter all operational. Any suggestions?

Hummm........well I take it nobody has any suggestions. :confused

I did manage to get it working. I turn it on and when I hear the windows USB new connection sound followed immediately by the windows USB disconnect sound, I quickly turn the power off and on again and the computer recognizes it.

So, you're shutting down and then restarting your computer? Is that what you mean?

Is this External HD powered only by the USB cable? If so, try disconnecting other USB devices. The HD may not be getting enough power to run.

No I'm shutting down the external HD. It is in an aftermarket self contained powered case.
