External HDD not working

Hi guys, Ive got this Samsung M3 Portable 1TB external hard drive a couple months ago, it was working fine but a few days back when shutting down the computer froze and didn't shut off until I took out this drive. Now it wont boot and wont even show in My Computer. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling it in Device Manager, the USB installs fine but "Disk Unit" fails. I went into Disk Management, it shows as Disk 1, Unknown, Not Initialized, in properties it shows 0 MB on Capacity, Free Space etc. When I try to initialize it shows: "request could not be performed because of an I/O device error". I am plugging it directly into a USB port with a Micro USB 3.0 SS cable. Ive tried replacing the cable, tried other USB ports and another computer, nothing works. Im running Windows 7. I foolishly used this drive to backup my data and since lost the original, so any advice on how to at least recover the data is appreciated. Thanks.

You can try Ultimate Boot CD for trying to recover your data from the external drive. It was just updated yesterday. It's Linux based and may be able to detect the drive even though Windows can't. But I can't account for the sudden incident.

 

I gave it a shot but none of the programs seemed to detect the drive, wasn't able to run Parted Magic at all.

 

Make sure your external drive isn't SATA if your motherboard is IDE only.
